Quick Navigation to Our Mattress Review

Brentwood Home 13-Inch Gel HD Memory Foam Bamboo Mattress

Many reviews have noted a slight chemical smell from the Brentwood Home 13-inch bamboo mattress, this is nothing to worry about as all mattresses have a slight chemical odor to them.

This smell dissipates after a few days and we found that the mattress takes a couple of days to fully come into shape, so it’s probably best to unpack the mattress and leave it for a couple of days before fitting to your bed.

The mattress is super comfortable and the bamboo cover is excellent for keeping you cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s cold. If you suffer from back problems, then this mattress has 13-inches of thick memory foam so that you can have a peaceful sleep without any problems.

With 13 inches of sumptuous memory foam and a hypo-allergenic bamboo cover, this mattress is a sleeper’s heaven.

With superb lumbar support and made from high quality material, there are no obvious flaws with this mattress.

A clear winner, but it is the most expensive memory foam bamboo mattress in our review, but you do get what you pay for and they don’t come any better than this.

One of the biggest selling bamboo mattresses is this offering from LUCID, the 2.5-inch mattress. Whilst not as thick as the massive 16-inch mattress, this does a very good job, but at a fraction of the cost.

The Gel infused mattress does a great job of keeping you cool at night and with the bamboo cover as well, you will have no worries in having a cool night’s sleep.

The 2.5-inch LUCID bamboo mattress has 13.5-inches less than it’s big brother, but is a lot cheaper, so perfect if your budget is smaller. It has the same gel infused memory foam mattress topper and a 100% bamboo cover.

Bamboo Mattress Benefits

You may not think that bamboo is a great material to use for bedding, especially for a mattress. If you are imagining the bamboo rods as they grow you don’t have the right idea. Bamboo can be harvested and processed into fibers that can be used for things like linens, pillows, and yes mattresses too. If you have never even thought of getting a bamboo mattress you should give this a read because you just might reconsider.

There are a great number of reasons as to why you should switch to using a bamboo mattress and they all lead to a much better sleep than you’ve ever experienced.

A Comfortable Sleep – unlike the bamboo shoots that you see growing out of the ground, bamboo fiber mattresses are actually very soft and comfortable. These mattresses can help you keep proper form while sleeping, plus they keep your spine neatly aligned so you don’t wake up in the morning with back pain. Having proper sleeping posture may sound trivial, but it can make all of the difference between waking up refreshed or waking up with a sore back and neck.

Healthy And Hypoallergenic – Mattresses of course are not designed to be washed and that goes for those made of bamboo too. Thus the fact that bamboo mattresses are bacteria and resistant is great a big selling point. Bacteria, dust mites, and other factors which can cause allergies have a hard time nesting in bamboo mattresses. Less allergens in your mattress means that you are breathing in less of the stuff that gives you sleeping troubles. A good bamboo mattress can eliminate night time allergies and let you get the sleep that you need.

Chemical Free – Another big selling point in terms of getting a bamboo mattress is the fact that they are virtually chemical free. Most plants that are grown and harvested for fiber are grown using pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and other poisons that have negative health effects. Bamboo on the other hand is grown naturally without the use of any of those things, thus providing you with a chemical free sleep.

Bamboo Is Eco-Friendly – One of the biggest benefits of having a bamboo mattress is not necessarily for you, but for the environment. You see bamboo grows very well in a number of conditions and climates, thus reducing the need for fertilizers and pesticides, compounds which seep into the ground and poison the environment.

Not only that, but bamboo is also very sustainable because it doesn’t require much water, sunlight, or extra nutrients to grow. Plus when you harvest bamboo the roots don’t die like with other plants such as cotton. This means that there is no need to replant bamboo after every harvest, thus saving many resources and a lot of time. Even when bamboo is trimmed it grows back very quickly. In terms of the energy used to produce bamboo, it requires much less to produce the same amount of it than something like cotton.

Temperature Control – Bamboo mattresses help regulate your body temperature while you sleep in 2 specific ways. First of all bamboo is quite porous when made into a fiber, thus allowing it to breathe. This means that air can flow quite freely through it keeping you cooler on hot days and warmer on cold nights. Second of all bamboo is also great at wicking away moisture. That means even if you sweat in your sleep you won’t be uncomfortably wet.

Taking Care of your Bamboo Mattress

Taking care of your bamboo mattress is not all that difficult, but you are still going to want to follow some recommendations to keep it in top shape. Follow these tips and your brand new bamboo mattress will last forever.

The bamboo mattress topper they come with can be a little fragile so you need to be careful when opening the packaging. Don’t use any particularly sharp objects to open the packaging because you will risk cutting or puncturing it.

When unrolling your new bamboo mattress don’t be too aggressive because you might cause deformities. These mattresses often come vacuum sealed and will thus be quite compressed when you first open them. Don’t try to force it into its proper shape. Instead leave it for a few days and it will assume the proper shape on its own.

On that same note, the mattress and the topper may be a little smelly when you first open them up. This can be due to the prolonged time that they have been packaged for as well as the foam that they come packaged with. Since bamboo breathes easily you want to let them sit for a few days to air out and the smell will go away.

It is recommended that you get some water proof mattress toppers to keep moisture off of the mattress as much as possible, since after all you can’t wash a mattress in your laundry machine.

You can also use special mattress cleaner or even baking soda to get rid of any odors it may have taken on from sleeping on it. Simply spread some baking soda onto it, let it sit for half an hour, and then vacuum it off.

These things are already quite stain and odor resistant so they don’t require much special treatment. Simply flip the mattress over every few months and let it get some air by opening the windows in your room for a few hours per day. Combine that with the regular washing of your bed sheets and you are good to go!
